Fuel Price FAQ

The 3 September 2026 FuelOS snapshot reports global averages of $1.54 per litre for petrol and $1.59 per litre for diesel. The averages use the latest available 89-country GlobalPetrolPrices.com observations, dated 31 August 2026; country cards show each source and as-of date separately. Prices include taxes and levies, so national totals vary with local policy and subsidies.
The all-country table above shows the lowest petrol observations in the current snapshot. Subsidised markets can appear at the bottom of the ranking; compare each country's local price, USD equivalent, source, and as-of date before drawing conclusions.
The all-country table above shows the highest petrol observations in the current snapshot. High-tax and tightly regulated markets often rank highest; each row displays its source and as-of date so operators can distinguish current and carried-forward data.
The 3 September 2026 snapshot reports a global Jet A-1 average of $0.99 per litre ($156.85/barrel), from the IATA Fuel Monitor / S&P Global Platts latest published weekly figure accessed 3 September 2026 and converted using 158.987 litres per barrel. Regional cards use the latest available index or retail observation and show their own source-as-of date; the SAF card is explicitly marked when carried forward.
The main drivers are crude benchmarks, refining and distribution costs, government taxes and subsidies, and local currency exchange rates against the USD. FuelOS keeps the local price and USD conversion together, records the exchange-rate date, and shows the most recent source date available for each surfaced observation.
Biofuels are liquid fuels derived from organic matter - crops, agricultural waste, or algae - rather than ancient fossil deposits. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a biofuel for aviation, can reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel. However, biofuels currently cost 3 - 5× more than fossil fuels and are constrained by feedstock availability and production capacity.
Aviation's primary decarbonisation pathway is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) - a drop-in replacement for Jet A-1 that requires no aircraft modification. The ICAO CORSIA scheme mandates carbon-neutral growth from 2020, with SAF blending targets increasing through 2030. Beyond SAF, fleet efficiency improvements (~1 - 2% per year) and carbon removal programmes also contribute to reducing the sector's ~1 billion tonne annual CO2 output.

The Future Isn't
Extracted. It's Grown.

Every price spike on this dashboard is a reminder of what fossil fuel dependency costs. The alternative already exists - biofuels, SAF, and biological carbon removal. Tao Climate is enabling the transition.

The gap between
fossil fuels and freedom
is closable.

This dashboard shows the problem in real time: fossil fuels are volatile, geopolitically fragile, and structurally expensive. A war, a sanctions regime, a chokepoint at the Strait of Hormuz - and prices surge everywhere, hitting airlines, logistics, and ordinary people hardest.

Carbon removal - not fossil fuel extraction - is the paradigm of the next economy. Tao Climate has already removed 20,000+ tonnes of CO2, verified by satellite, validated by Google, ESA, and XPRIZE. That's the proof the infrastructure works.

Biofuel and SAF production costs continue to fall with scale. Fossil fuel prices are determined by geopolitics. Only one of these trends is in your control. Data: IATA, IEA, McKinsey 2024.

🌿
Hemp-Based Biofuels
Hemp can produce up to 1,500 litres of biofuel per hectare per year - twice that of corn. It requires minimal water, no pesticides, and actually restores soil carbon as it grows. Hemp-based biodiesel is chemically compatible with most diesel engines today. The barrier isn't the technology. It's supply chain scale.

✈️
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
Airlines consumed ~100 billion gallons of jet fuel in 2023. Less than 1% was SAF. IATA's target is 65% by 2050 - that gap is the opportunity. SAF from bio-based feedstocks can cut lifecycle emissions by up to 80%. Every airline comparing the latest published IATA weekly Jet A-1 benchmark accessed 3 September 2026 with SAF costs can see the transition challenge. 🌍
Carbon Removal at Scale
Fossil fuels extract carbon buried for 300 million years and release it in decades. Biochar and biological carbon removal reverse that - capturing atmospheric CO2 and permanently sequestering it for 100+ years. Tao Climate's removal credits are satellite-monitored and CRCF-compliant, validated by Google, ESA, and XPRIZE. Member of Google's Startups for Sustainable Development programme.

Enabling the Transition
The platform at supplier.taoclimate.com connects biomass and biofuel producers with the supply chains, MRV frameworks, and carbon registries they need to scale. Whether you grow hemp, process waste oils, or run a SAF refinery - the infrastructure to monetise it responsibly exists today. Start making biofuels. The market is waiting.
